The Rolla Technical Institute masonry program, under the instruction of Mr. Martin, teaches students about types of courses and bonds; properties and technical details of foundations, floors, roofs, walls and fireplaces; and mathematics for blueprint reading. The program has been in existence approximately 25 years and serves about 30 students per year. Recently, Mr. Martin and his students have been working with the University of Missouri - Rolla Civil Engineering Department in building and testing walls and their strength. This project has earned them national recognition and they traveled to Texas where they demonstrated their findings to a group of instructors attending a conference.
