What is the project you are most proud of?
We are very proud of all of the jobs we have constructed through the years, and it would be very hard to choose one as our favorite. I would have to say, however, our highest profile job would be "The Getty Center." This was a once in a lifetime stone project where our contract exceeded sixty five million dollars and encompassed (1,300,000) one million three hundred thousand square feet of stone, mostly consisting of cubic, split-face travertine. We are very proud to have tackled a job of this size and of the very favorable response we received from the owner and contractor. This job also won an "International Excellence in Masonry Award" from the MCAA.
The most innovative thing about our company is?
The most innovative thing about our company has to be the people it employs and their innovative approach with the teamwork and leadership required to allow our company to enjoy a highly respected status in the masonry industry. This quality standard and innovated approach gives our company the ability to step out and develop and implement new procedures and the ability to take on any difficult project no matter what the size or complexity involved.
How did you get into the contracting business?
I was fortunate to grow up in a family of bricklayers including my father (50 year Gold card), my grandfather and four uncles. These men progressed in their careers to become masonry foremen, field superintendents, and estimators, which provided the groundwork and desire for me to want to be a part of the masonry industry.
We became a member of the MCAA because?
The main reason was to support the industry. The MCAA also gives us a place to attend conferences and seminars, and provides our personnel with resources that enhance their training and job skills.
I find the thing I like most about the MCAA now is?
I think the MCAA helps its members project a professionalism with their companies. They can use the training seminars and the MASONRY Magazine as resource information to better their companies. The conventions also provide some fun with the work and allows its members to mix with other contractors to provide different views on the problems we all face in our industry; and the different approaches to the problems we all share. The conventions also provide a trade show where the latest in equipment, tools and anchor systems can be viewed in one forum.
