HE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION COMMUNITIES
MIM Executive Director, Dan Zechmeister, PE, states, "bearing walls constructed centuries ago." He says "MIM is working to take the mystery out of masonry for contractors, engineers and architects. The new Story Pole is a giant leap for us; it will assist in getting our message out to the entire design and construction communities throughout Michigan. The Institute offers a variety of services to promote, research and educate in an effort to build a better, stronger masonry system which will endure for centuries to come."

The magazine's objectives are to market the masonry industry to the design and construction communities, showcasing exemplary projects and companies, and to be a communication tool, an educational tool and an industry resource. Zechmeister sees the new magazine as a giant leap in the association's effectiveness. "It will allow our members to advertise their products and services to their prime targets very economically. This is the first time we have had a publication with advertising. Our members have been asking for that. They see this as a valuable opportunity to tell their stories. People in the News and Industry News are two columns they can contribute to regularly. Technical information will keep members up to date. I believe strongly in educating our contractors so they can build a better building. But, they have nothing to build until the architects design. Educating the architects has always been one of our biggest thrusts. Masonry courses, if any, are electives in colleges of architecture and not required for graduation. We are working to change that at the four colleges of architecture in Michigan. The MIM is educating professors. I am teaching a class at the Lawrence Technological University College of Architecture in Structural Masonry Design. In the last 50 years, this industry has changed dramatically."

"The value of masonry construction in Michigan has been growing at a very healthy rate," quotes Marketing Director, Ed Stahlin, in an article in the May Story Pole. Michigan ranked third in per capita masonry construction spending.

PRESSURE WASHING
Pressure washing and restoration cleaning is a big part of our business. We often clean off Swigstages, which sometimes have limited access. We have several pressure wands, which we modified for employee safety. We simply install a quick coupler at the base of the wand, and then we install a longer extension pipe with the opposite coupler. Our pressure tip then just snaps into the end of the extension pipe with another coupler fitting
