AMCA HOSTS THIRD ANNUAL SKILLS CHALLENGE

The Arizona Mason Contractors Association hosted the third annual Region G Masonry Skills Challenge at Western Block on Saturday, October 27th. Apprentices competed in first, second and third year skills contests to determine who would go on to represent the region at the MCAA International Masonry Skills Challenge next February. First place winners from this contest were first year apprentice Uriel Medrano, second year David Lenz and third year Ryan Gray.

"We had a strong level of competition as exhibited by this years' contestant projects," said AMCA instructor Casey Schreur. "We're looking forward to competing against the winners from the other regions and the Canadian winners."

CRIS STELLER SELECTED AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF CCMCA

Following a meeting held on October 24, 2001, CCMCA Officers selected Cris Steller as the Executive Director of the CCMCA effective November 1, 2001. Cris Steller was born in 1962 and is now the same age as Ryan O'Brien was when he established the CCMCA the year Cris was born. He has several proposals for increasing the CCMCA membership and providing greater services to its members.

ILLINOIS STATE TREASURER'S OFFICE OFFERS UNCLAIMED PROPERTY AMNESTY PROGRAM

MIKE CANEZ WINS ARIZONA FASTEST TROWEL

The Arizona Mason Contractors Association held its Fastest Trowel Contest to determine who would represent the association in the national Fastest Trowel Competition hosted by the Mason Contractors Association of America.

Contestants from all over Phoenix competed in this 20-minute competition. Mike Canez of Rivera Masonry won the competition. The contest is judged on various categories including the number of block laid and workmanship. Although Ramon Gonzalez laid the most block, Canez won the overall contest earning him a spot in the national contest.
