Rain, if the owner will wait long enough. But since this usually occurs for the first time, the day before grand opening of the building, the natural reaction is to try to clean the masonry immediately. And since all lay people know that you use "muratic acid to clean brick," the owner starts scrubbing. Little does he/she know that there will be a chemical reaction, which changes the salt to something no longer soluble.
SO WHAT SHOULD BE DONE?
If logic holds, true one would expect that soluble salts could be dissolved by water. Actually that's not far from the solution. Dry brush to remove the majority of the crystallized salt. Then a water wash to take off the remaining salt. It would seem that the less water used in cleaning, the less water is reintroduced into the wall system.
