Young Mason Excels
Austin Larick, 17, of Salinas, Calif., is our Masonry Apprentice of the Month. In June 2002, Larick participated in the secondary (high school) division of the national masonry contest. The competition is held annually in Kansas City, Mo., in conjunction with the SkillsUSA-VICA National Leadership Skills Conference.
A senior at Salinas High School, Larick has a variety of interests that include water polo, blacksmithing and surfing.
Of his family, Larick says, "My Dad is a general contractor, so he and Mom have been very supportive. And my instructors say they're just excited to have a new mason in our area!"
Larick's future plans include continuing his education at the post secondary level.
