The 22nd MC&MCA Awards

THE 22ND ANNUAL EXCELLENCE IN CONCRETE AND MASONRY DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION AWARDS

By Mike McGowan
President. Minnesota Concrete and Masonry Contractor Association

Concrete... Block... Brick... Stone... Any one of the above materials can be used in conversation to convey the feeling of strength and longevity. It is no wonder the architects and engineers who specify and design with concrete and masonry are planning for the long-term of the buildings they design. The Minnesota Concrete and Masonry Contractor Association (MC&MCA) and associated trades continue to promote and acknowledge outstanding projects that utilize these materials.

The MC&MCA 22 Excellence in Concrete and Masonry Design and Construction Awards recognizes this year's outstanding projects, which will be cornerstones that the industry can be proud of for years. As you view the 2004 contest winners, you will see the block, brick and stone used to bring a strong and versatile statement to the project. This statement allows the trades to withstand the test of time and allows us to be optimistic about our industry's future.

Success will come by continued efforts of all involved in our industry to recruit skilled trade members. The MC&MCA is continuing to work with labor unions, producers and construction organizations to recruit new craft workers in the area high schools and technical colleges. The effort is now in its seventh year.

Not only is recruitment and education of trades people important, but the continued involvement of contractors and suppliers who make their living from the trowel trades is key to the success of this industry. The MC&MCA remains committed to a strong, versatile concrete and masonry industry. With the help of design professionals who specify and design with these materials, we all will provide a foundation for growth of our industry.

If you would like to learn more about MC&MCA, contact Executive Director Gary Botzek, 26 East Exchange Street, Suite 414, St. Paul, MN 55101; call (651) 293-0892; or visit our web site at www.mcmca.com.
