The holidays usually bring out a great stir of emotion in most people. I, on the other hand, can go to an extreme, so much so that friends and family have given me the nickname "Sappy." I can tolerate incredible amounts of pain, strain and other uncomfortable situations without a flinch, but give me a Hallmark commercial and the waterworks start flowin'.

While I must deal with the embarrassing nature of this condition, it does have one bonus: as sappy as it sounds, I am very touched by the thoughtfulness and caring nature of others.

When it comes to our magazine, while we may not be the biggest out there, I'd like to think that we put out a high-quality publication that rivals others. While I'd love to boast that this is due to my own hard work, I can honestly say the quality of this magazine can be mainly attributed to the generosity of the many contractors, organizations, vendors, elected officials and MCAA staff members who have contributed their time, expertise and hard work over the years.

This issue is no exception. Experts from across the masonry industry have helped create the editorial for this issue, including the Mason Contractors Association of America, Brick Industry Association, Cintec International, Concrete Sawing & Drilling Association, Congressman Pete Sessions (R-Dallas), Construction Specifiers Institute, Holt Marketing Group. International Masonry Institute, Jackson & Campbell, P.C. We would need an entire magazine to express gratitude to all of the people who have assisted us over the years.

Masonry Institute of Tennessee, Portland Cement Association, Robin Subaru, Christine A. Subasic, P.E., Spec Mix, Texas Masonry Council, The Masonry Society, U.S. Green Building Council and Wight & Company. And that's just this issue alone! We would need an entire magazine to express gratitude to all of the people who have assisted us over the years - your contributions are not forgotten.

Also, I would be remiss in not thanking the advertisers who have supported our magazine over the years. Please keep these vendors in mind when you purchase equipment and services, just as they keep you in mind when they support communication, training opportunities and sponsorships in the masonry community.

Thank you all for helping make this magazine such a success. But don't think this lets you off the hook! Keep your ideas, articles, information and pictures coming so that we can continue to show everyone the wonderful masonry community. I can be reached at 770-431-0867 ext. 225 or jen@lionhrtpub.com.

Have a safe and bountiful Thanksgiving holiday, everyone!
