NEW for 2005!

Masonry: It Makes a lage" Competition
Wednesday & Thursday April 20-21, 12:30pm-4:30pm
A new addition to our competition program for 2005 is "Masonry: It Makes a Village". What village structure can you make with 732 bricks, 30 concrete masonry units, glass block and cultured stone? Add a little imagination, a team of architects and mason contractors, and you have the "Masonry: It Makes a Village design build competition. This exciting 2-day competition challenges leading contractors and architects from across the country to highlight masonry and its many uses, its flexibility, and its creativeness to hundreds of architects. A 1st, 2nd, 3rd place award will be chosen by our judging panel, along with a People's Choice award judged by Masonry Showcase and CONSTRUCT AMERICA" attendees. This program showcases the creative energies and work of masonry experts to gain a better understanding of non-traditional uses of masonry and how a two-dimensional plan becomes a three dimensional structure.

Fastest Trowel Competition
Friday April 22, 9:00am
Fastest Trowel showcases the skill of a journeyman mason and how important teamwork is in accomplishing a final product. The competition will pit the journeymen against one another in a show of both speed and craftsmanship. Each contestant's goal is to complete as much of an 18-block-long wall as possible. With the 20 minute time limit that is placed on the contestants, they must make certain decisions based on the judging criteria set forth. Only those journeymen masons who have the skill, confidence and courage to face-off with the industry's best will be invited to compete.
