MCAA's Legislative Conference 2005

The Mason Contractors Association of America (MCAA) will host its 2005 Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C., June 26-28. Members should make every effort to attend this important conference.

For those of you who have never been to Washington before, much less met with your Congressman or Senator, you will enjoy going to Capital Hill to visit with your representatives about legislation impacting your business.

During this three-day session, you will have an opportunity to hear from prominent Senators and Congressmen on silica, apprenticeship training tax deductions, tax issues, Association Health Plans (AHPs), tort reform, asbestos victims' compensation legislation and immigration reform. We have also invited a senior official from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to provide details about the agency's regulatory agenda. Members may also be educated by none other than Ken Mehlman, Chairman of the Republican National Committee, about the 2006 elections and what to expect in some of the key races around the country.

However, the highlight of the conference will be the special briefing that the White House has arranged just for MCAA members to bring us up to speed on Social Security reform, Homeland Security efforts and immigration. This briefing will be held in the Old Executive Office Building right next to the West Wing of the White House. This will be a tremendous opportunity for MCAA members to meet with senior White House staff.

MCAA is gaining prominence in Washington. Our Director of Government Affairs, Marian Marshall, is involved in numerous coalitions and task forces to help formulate and lobby for a business-friendly agenda. We want you to be part of shaping the future of our industry. Please join us at the Legislative Conference in June so you can be actively engaged in that process and learn more about what it means to have someone in Washington representing your interests. You will find it time well spent.
