This year's NCMCA Convention will be held April 27-30 at Kingston Plantation in Myrtle Beach, N.C. South Carolina

The Masters of Building Arts Festival, hosted by the American College of the Building Arts (ACBA) will be held March 24-26 in downtown Charleston, S.C. The event will showcase master artisans from throughout the United States, as well as students and faculty from ACBA to showcase their skills and artistry of the building arts.

The festival will feature continuous demonstrations to showcase the techniques, tools, materials and methods of master artisans within the building arts, and will also include an auction of period architecture playhouses produced by regional architects and builders. There will also be scaled models on display from Les Compagnons du Devoir, a European program that has been teaching the building arts for more than 600 years.

St. Louis

The Mason Contractors Association of St. Louis held a New Products Forum on Feb. 7 at the St. Louis Masonry Centre. Attendees were served free dinner and drinks. Tennessee

Students, Lawrence County Board of Education members, Lawrenceburg citizens and Masonry Institute of Tennessee (MIT) members celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Lawrence County High School Career and Technical Center. Held on Oct. 19, the groundbreaking featured shoveling sand into a new mixer, instead of the traditional shovel and dirt groundbreaking. The unprecedented ceremony marked the beginning of masonry's commitment to not only building solid facilities, but also solid futures for Tennessee students.

TMS University Professors' Masonry Workshop

The Masonry Society's (TMS) University Professors' Masonry Workshop (UPMW) is the most important event of the year for architectural, construction management and engineering educators who teach masonry courses, hope to incorporate masonry courses, or offer portions of courses in their curriculum. The goal of the workshop is to assist educators in finding the tools and resources to conduct successful classes in masonry, thereby producing more knowledgeable young professionals in relation to masonry design and construction.

The 2006 UPMW will be held at Portland State University, in Portland, Ore., March 26-28.
