MASONRY ASSOCIATION
OF FLORIDA AWARDS
The Masonry Association of Florida Inc. (MAF) held its Annual Convention Aug. 9-12 at the Lido Beach Resort in Sarasota, Fla. The association also is celebrating a 20-year anniversary. The festivities kicked off with a MAF annual meeting, which was followed by a board meeting. On Aug. 10, MAF held its annual Apprentice Skills competition. First-year apprentice winners were Delmar Lopez, first place; Allen Sharp, second place; and Greg McCarthy, third place. Second-year winners were Ruben Martinez, first place; Gabriel Pablo, second place; and Justin Wright, third place. Winners of the third-year competition were Vicente Perez, first place; Chris Cook, second place; and Heriberto Rodriguez, third place.
The Apprentice Skills competition was followed by the Fastest Trowel competition. The winners were Pascal Robertson, first place; Robert Carlton, second place; and Jeff Leach, third place.
The competitions were followed by a "building green with masonry" seminar given by Glenn Clapper, AIA, from Brick Southeast. The night ended with dinner and a presentation by guest speaker Lynn Donohue and the Apprentice Awards presentation. Finally, a golf tournament at Longboat Key Club was followed by a reception, silent auction and annual awards dinner. Daniel Lageman received a Lifetime Achievement award.
