Fastest Trowel Competition
Masons and their tenders competed during the 2008 MCAA Convention in Las Vegas at the World of Concrete/World of Masonry in January. The annual Fastest Trowel on the Block Competition drew contestants from across the country. Each contestant's goal is to complete as much of an 18-block-long wall as possible within a 20-minute time limit. Winners received trophies, and the first-place took home $7,000, second-place received $2,500, while $1,000 was awarded to the third-place winner.
The top-placing contestants in this year's competition were:
First Place: Pascal Robertson - Robertson Masonry, Sorrento, Fla.; Tenders: Tyler Robertson, Jesse Fullen
Second Place: Ray Robinson - J.A.M. Construction Inc., Gainesville, Fla.; Tenders: Lynette Darby, James Allen
Third Place: Noe Melgoza - Avila Masonry, Glendale, Ariz.; Tenders: Oswaldo Rodriguez, Diego Martinez
MCAA Midyear Meeting
All MCAA members are invited to attend the 2008 MCAA Midyear Meeting in Park City, Utah, from Sept. 14-17 to discuss current and future MCAA initiatives as well as our efforts to promote the industry and fight for the issues faced everyday. The Midyear Meeting offers an opportunity to be involved in your industry while enjoying the Rocky Mountains. Accommodations will be at the Stein Eriksen Lodge in upper Deer Valley.
MCAA Online Auction
The MCAA's fourth-annual Online Auction will be held at www.masoncontractors.org/auction May 19-21. The auction is a great opportunity for you to purchase products for a fraction of the cost of retail, while supporting the association and helping your company. All proceeds support MCAA programs. A list of this year's products will be available at www.masoncontractors.org/auction by April 15. Live bidding begins at 9 a.m. EST on May 19.
