Mastclimbers Receives IAPA Award
Atlanta-based Mastclimbers LLC, along with members of its "Gecko" travel club, traveled to Dublin, Ireland, to receive the Mast Climbing Work Platform Achievement Award. The award, which was part of the inaugural International Awards for Powered Access (IAPA), was in recognition of the company's achievements. Judges said Bobby Reese, Mike Pitt and Kevin O'Shea have created a company that is both a promoter of the mast climbing work platform worldwide, and at the forefront of efforts to ensure the safe use of mast climbers wherever they are operating, especially in the North American market. Treumann Receives Stone 2009 President's Award
Livingstone Treumann, Latin America district sales manager for Stone Construction Equipment Inc., has received the company's President's Award. Lynne Woodworth, president and CEO of Stone Construction Equipment Inc., presented the award to Treumann at the company's National Sales Meeting. The award is given to the district sales manager who best exemplifies Stone's philosophy and values: respect, trust, communication and development. Treumann furthers Stone's commitment and partnership approach when dealing with customers.

New ISO Standards Lift Crane Safety Level
ISO 23814:2009, Cranes-Competency requirements for crane inspectors, specifies the competency required of persons who carry out periodic, exceptional, alteration and thorough inspections of cranes. It excludes the day-to-day inspection and checks performed by crane operators and maintenance personnel. The standard addresses the following issues:
* Independence, impartiality and integrity
* Technical knowledge and experience
* Techniques for crane inspection
* Training of crane inspectors.
The objective of this International Standard is to achieve a uniformly high competency of crane inspectors worldwide. In some countries, there may be additional regulatory requirements that must also be taken into account.
Two other standards point out that to ensure cranes are operated safely, their proper working and operational conditions need to be maintained. Therefore, all cranes must undergo inspections to detect deviations from safe conditions so they can be put right. The inspections are the responsibility of crane users or owners.
