Vision 20/20 Moving Forward

The MCAA officers, along with Executive Director Jeff Buczkiewicz, met with the National Concrete Masonry Association (NCMA) and the Brick Industry Association (BIA) for a Vision 20/20 strategy meeting June 4 and 5 in Chicago. The meeting was a great success. As we progress with the Vision 20/20 planning strategy, many new tools are becoming available to us. At this meeting, we decided that we would have two Mission/Vision Statements, one for our internal use to give the participants around the country a purpose statement, and the other for our community planners and council people that will let them understand that we are promoting "Sustainable Masonry Systems" for their communities.

The BIA has been involved with community planners for some time now and shared their challenges and successes with their program. We will be able to utilize some of what they have learned and apply it to the Vision 20/20 training program for our grassroots efforts.

This is where we are to date: The Vision 20/20 program consists of three partner organizations, the NCMA, the BIA and the MCAA. We are committed to promoting "Sustainable Masonry Systems" to community planners, city councils, school boards, architects and engineers and, in many cases, we will request the implementation of masonry ordinances from local government agencies. Our goals are to promote the value of sustainable masonry systems, including building a reliable, consistent tax base, durability, life cycle costs, energy savings costs, LEED (Green), etc.

The Vision 20/20 Leadership group will physically meet four times a year, along with monthly conference calls to develop our grassroots efforts and establish the training programs required for the local implementation. Local implementation will consist of a supplier member, contractor member and, in some cases, a professional planner who will be able to meet the local planners in their area.

We are excited to be involved in such a joint effort that promotes the masonry industry, and we are confident that the effective implementation of this program will result in our industry recapturing our entire lost market share, and then some. IMAS
