CAST STONE IS ALIVE AND WELL IN THESE CHALLENGING TIMES. Until the mid-to late-1980s, few seismic requirements existed for masonry joint reinforcing, anchors and ties. But thinking started to change in the late-1980s and early- to mid-1990s, when model codes introduced new provisions that improved the performance of masonry structures during earthquakes.
