Empower Your Team to Help Prevent Cyberattacks

Words: Patrick Cunningham

Human error contributes to 82% of data breaches, making your employees a crucial line of defense against cyber threats.1 A single mistake could expose your business to a data breach. This could lead to data loss, downtime, and a negative impact on your bottom line.

Train Your Employees to Help Prevent Cyber Threats

  • Recognize Phishing Red Flags
Teach your team to spot suspicious emails by looking for signs of phishing, like generic greetings, misspellings or grammatical errors, or urgent language asking for immediate action. Consider using phishing simulations to train employees.

  • Enforce Strong Password Policies
Encourage employees to use complex passwords and avoid reusing them across sites. Implement multi-factor authentication for an added layer of security.

  • Promote Safe Attachment Practices
Advise employees to only open attachments from known, trusted sources. If in doubt, they should verify the sender's identity before downloading.

  • Keep Credentials Confidential
Stress the importance of keeping login credentials private. Ensure employees understand the dangers of sharing passwords, even internally.

  • Limit Use of External Devices
Require approval for use of external devices, and remind employees to avoid inserting unfamiliar USB drives. Use endpoint protection software to help reduce these risks.

  • Mandate Regular Updates
Keep systems, software, and devices up-to-date by automating updates whenever possible. Additionally, encourage employees to regularly back up data.
