24" x 32" Masonry Package Result Of A Nationwide Committee Study
The Mason Contractors Association's adoption of the 24 x 32 inch size materials handling package was the result of a study of MCAA members across the country, one of the Association's top officers told an audience of the Texas Concrete Masonry Association in October.
Herman L. May, Secretary of the MCAA, said the study showed that 90 per cent of the mason contractors polled were using pallets or packages measuring 24 x 32 inches or packages compatible with that size.
May stated that the study by an MCAA Committee he headed, grew out of a need for the mason contractor to sharpen his competitive teeth, and come to grips with burgeoning costs. "By using this method," he declared. "We have reduced the labor cost of getting the masonry units from the supplier's truck to the bricklayer by some 30 per cent."
He called on masonry materials manufacturers and suppliers to recognize "... the size package we need if we are going to get our share of the construction market for masonry."
"As you know, the more masonry we can promote the better our business will be as contractors and the better yours will be as masonry manufacturers," he concluded.
The meeting took place at the Commodore Hotel in Austin, Texas.
