Milwaukee Picnic
The annual Milwaukee Chapter picnic was held on Saturday, June at Old Heidelberg Park, with a record turnout. With races, rides, refreshments and good, the day was a wonderful time for the entire family. Jake Ribar and his committee did another effort which is hard to equal.
Houston Chapter News
The April meeting of the Association of Masonry Contractors of Houston, Ellis, Acme Brick Co. presented Lowell Lammers, architect, who made an interesting talk on facts relative to the masonry industry. The May meeting held on Monday th. Bill Alexander discussed new developments in scaffolding.
The March Cover
The March issue of Masonry the Wonderland Shopping Center, Livonia, Michigan, was featured on the cover. The architects for the project, 3. Redstone, Inc., have advised designs of the specific panels were by Miss Geraldine Kavanaugh and Richard Jennings. The panel on the lower was by Miss Kavanaugh and that pictured on page 17 was by Mr. Jennings. Masonry's only is that these two beautiful wall could not be run in full color the wonderful skill of these artists.
Cool Concrete

Di Giandomenico '62 Apprentice Champ
E. Lyle Parsley, Vice President-West, presents to John Di Giandomenico, Cleveland, Ohio, the MCAA's Apprenticeship Plaque for winning the 1962 National Bricklayer Apprenticeship Contest held in Portland, Oregon.
PORTLAND, OREGON-John Di Giandomenico, Ohio State Champion, has won the National Apprenticeship Bricklaying Contest held at the Union Industry Show here. John Di Giandomenico completed with 40 other bricklaying champions from other states in the country. In winning the contest he received a first prize award of $500, and in addition, a trophy and plaque.
Other winners were John Pfister, San Diego, Calif. placing second. Benito Pisano, Stamford, Conn. was third with George Polman, Jr. New York, N.Y. in forth place. Robert Gross, Manhatten, Kansas placed fifth.
The contest this year was held in one of the finest exhibit areas ever constructed at the Union Industry Show, and constantly, throughout the hours of the Show, a large and interested crowd viewed the apprentices. In addition this year's group of young men produced work which was not only fine in quality, but also very commendable in production.
John Di Giandomenico earlier had won the Ohio title at the Cleveland Home and Flower Show, and had placed second in the Cleveland, Ohio contest which qualified him to compete in the State Contest. John Di Giandomenico is 24 years old, has been an apprentice bricklayer for 2 years, and has been in the United States 4 years, having migrated from Italy in 1958. He is a member of Bricklayers and Masons Local No. 5. Cleveland, Ohio. He has been receiving his apprenticeship schooling at Cleveland's Board of Education Max H.
