# Cleaning Clay Masonry Walls
Structural Clay Products Research Foundation has released a report on Methods of Removing Various Stains from Clay Masonry. The material has been compiled by William K. Soderstrum, Ceramic Engineer, SCPRF. This 28-page book has been mailed to each MCAA Chapter Office along with order forms so that each group may have this valuable report for its members.
# AED Green Book
The 15th Edition of Compilation of Rental Rates for Construction Equipment, published by the Associated Equipment Distributors on Nov. 1st, has been sent to each MCAA Chapter office. Climaxing a nationwide survey this summer of machinery rental charges, weeks of tabulating, re-design and printing preparations, the 1963-64 Compilation is bigger, better and more convenient to use than any previous edition.
Completely sectionalized and tab-indexed, the new "Green Book" contains average rental rates for more than 2,000 types and sizes of construction equipment, ranging from hand tools to large earthmovers.
Rental rates reflect the national average of charges reported in the survey of some 800 AED member firms in every part of the country. Check your local MCAA Chapter office and examine this valuable new reference manual.
# Labor Department News
Secretary of Labor W. Willard Wirtz has filed a suit in the U. S. District Court at Denver, Colorado asking that the 1963 election of officers by Local 9, of the International Union of Operating Engineers, be set aside. The complaint alleges the union violated the election provisions of the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act by the use of "unreasonable" rules of eligibility for officer candidates, and by its failure to mail notices of the election to 141 members in good standing.
# Indiana Chapters Hold Meeting
PCA Names Paris Canadian Manager
Ottawa, Ont. The Portland Cement Association has announced an expansion of its field services to cement users in Canada through the appointment of a Canadian manager with headquarters in Ottawa, and establishment of four new district offices, effective January 1, 1964. Heading up the Canadian operations is George H. Paris, formerly director of promotion planning and engineering services for the Association. As Canadian Manager, he will supervise activities of the five district offices which will provide engineering field services and assistance to architects, engineers, contractors, public officials and other cement users throughout the country. Mr. Paris, the newly appointed Canadian manager, is a graduate in civil engineering from the University of Illinois. He has served with the Portland Cement Association since 1946 in its structural and railways bureau, as assistant to the vice-president for promotion, and as director of engineering services.
# Heads SCPI Engineering
James G. Gross, associate director of engineering and technology of SCPI, has been appointed director of the department. Gross, a native of North Dakota and a graduate of North Dakota State University, from which he holds a degree in architectural engineering, worked for three years as a field engineer and staff engineer for SCPI in Oklahoma and Texas before joining the national staff as an engineer in 1957. In 1961, he was named associate director of Engineering and Technology. He has been active in professional and educational groups, serving as chairman of the Committee on Masonry in Building of the Building Research Institute and as a member of the Committees on Masonry Units and Mortars for Unit Masonry of American Society for Testing Materials.

State Vice President Marvin Argenta has announced that during the annual meeting of the Conference Thomas Williamson of Indianapolis has been selected as the Vice President-elect.
Tax Division, Department of Revenue who discussed the new Indiana sales tax law and its relation to the masonry construction field. During the evening meeting James L. Martin gave an explanation of "How the Critical Path Affects You."
The Saturday session was opened with a presentation by Edwin Gibson, Director, Indiana Dept. of Public Works, on the Pre-Qualification Law. The Indiana Lien Law was then reviewed by William Wildnack, State Representative, and Duge But, City Attorney, Beach Grove, Indiana. During the luncheon on Saturday George Miller, MCAA Ex. Vice President, discussed jurisdictional matters with the members. During the afternoon session Robert Campbell outlined a proposed license for masonry contractors.
Saturday evening members enjoyed a hospitality hour followed by a dinner dance.
During the banquet Ward Bro presented a plaque to Walter Edwards for his work as President of the Mason Contractors Association of Indianapolis.
Arrangements for the meeting were handled by the Indianapolis Chapter and their Executive Secretary, Charles Weaver.
