A Ads Rated High
A nationwide reader interest survey has shown that the National Concrete Masonry Association's outdoor advertisement in the March issue of House & Home recorded the highest percentage of reader interest for a full-page, full-color ad in the magazine. Judged on the basis of reader interest, not merely what the readers remembered seeing, the ad also scored by 13 percentage points over its nearest competitor in the structural and masonry materials category. Other advertisers in NCMA's category included the Honeycomb Cores Division of Union Bag-Camp Paper Corp., West Coast Lumbermans Association, Southern Pine Association and Western Pine Association.
This was the second ad in NCMA'S schedule of full-color advertising in the nation's leading architectural and building trades magazines and also the second NCMA reader ad to achieve top readership rating in a national survey. The association's first prize-winning full-color ad, which appeared in the December, 1962 issue of Architectural Forum, was on commercial building.

Nationwide Sales Report
CHICAGO, ILL. Springing back after a slow year in 1962, distributor sales of construction machinery in the first quarter of 1963 generally topped last year's similar period by 5-10%.
This is the nationwide report by dealers to the Associated Equipment Distributors.
Furthermore, distributors are optimistic about balance-of-year prospects, with the majority predicting between 10 and 15% increases in sales over 1962.
Despite isolated "slow" areas - upstate New York, Illinois, Michigan, Colorado, Utah, California the over-all picture shows new equipment sales starting the year off well, and increasing steadily.
Under sponsorship of the Detroit Mason Contractors Association the first national Squash Racquets Tournament was held at the Uptown Athletic Club in Detroit. Eighteen participants took part in the tournament which was divided into three classes of play. Winners of each of the groups were:
Class A 1st Place Floyd Nixon
2nd Place James R. Snyder
Class B 1st Place Bill Dillion
2nd Place Charles "Skip" Nedrow
Class C 1st Place Joe McCann
2nd Place Don R. Bidwell
Following the tournament a Banquet was held with over 60 people joining in to honor the winners. Edward Hahn, former professional squash racquets champion and owner of the Uptown Athletic Club, was guest speaker and awarded the various trophies.
