Promote Masonry Construction
Ten local unions in Michigan have instituted ma promotion programs. Five locals in the lower pen of Michigan banded together in June of 1961 an in the upper peninsula joined forces in August of with the basic objective of doing everything possi create job opportunities for their members.
When the five locals of Lansing. Saginaw, Flin City, and Midland, whose jurisdictions adjoin one am got together to discuss the possibilities of joint eff masonry promotion; they established, under the gu of Fifth Vice President. John Lodge, basic guide which are as follows:
The program would be an informal, non-profit, corporated association of an unlimited number of B.. P. I. U. locals in the state of Michigan with the basi cy to do everything possible to create job opport for the members of the B. M. & P. I. U. There articles of association nor are there any by-laws.
Necessary financing was determined to be an a equal to $1 per member per month. Each partici local is to determine its own method of raising the whether by dues increase, assessment, or approp from the general funds of the local. Funds from sources are neither solicited nor accepted.
They have no plans for negotiating any part on promotion program with employers, at least unti time as such activities will have protection of law.
The program is administered by a board of gov composed of two representatives from each partici local; offices are elected from this group. In the short time of their existence they have considerable progress in meeting their objectives following is a brief resume of their accomplishmen activities.
Committee members have made numerous ca interested people in their jurisdiction. This has am to contacts with 28 architects, 15 school boards, gineering firm, and 3 church building committees. contacts have instigated many repeat calls. Also c ficials, contractors, and many supply dealers have called on for assistance and cooperation.
