During the stay Joint dustry Committee Chairman Richard DeWalle held a meeting on Saturday afternoon, attended by William Doark, SCPI, Richard Branham, NCA, Walter Kunze and S. Westby, MCAA. William Conners and Thomas Murphy, B.M.P.L.U., MCAA members Don Stevens, Fred Daues and Heimbrock.

Charles Velardo, Sr., Vice President G. Salvucci Co., Newton, Mass., was one of the featured speakers at the 20th Annual Eastern Seaboard Apprenticeship Conference held recently at Poland Spring, Maine.

P. Mueller has been appointed general manager of the Kwik-Mix Div., Koehring Co. Until joining Koehring in April of this year, Mueller was president and general manager of Mueller Climatrol Division of Worthington Company. Skil Corp. has named J. Herbert Scott as Director of Advertising-Public Relations. In announcing the apointment, Harry L. Bullock, Marketing-Vice President, said that Scott will have full responsibility of all advertising, sales promotion, merchandising and public relations activities. Goldblatt Tool has released their 1964 Trowel Trades Tool catalog. Its 56 pages are jammed packed with ideas.

Haakon Lunde, Chicago Mason Contractor, took a fall for 17 feet the later part of May when he slipped from a roof deck. We're happy to report that after several days in the hospital Haakon is back on the job with just a few minor bruises to show for his harrowing experience.

Hershey Site of Summer Board Meeting

The Summer Executive Board Meeting of the MCAA will be held at Hotel Hershey, Hershey, Pa., July 23 through July 26. The schedule was announced by President Les Dietrich calls for a Management Institute to be held on Thursday afternoon, July 23, at 1:30 Ρ.Μ. This session will feature Legal Counsel Peer Pedersen who will discuss and review "Contracts". During the evening Thursday and on Friday morning Committee Chairmen have called meetings of their respective groups, so that full reports can be presented to the Executive Board when it meets on Saturday morning at 9:30 Α.Μ.

On Friday afternoon the Annual MCAA Golf Outing will be held. Making arrangements and conducting the tournament will be Fred Daues and George Arconti.

Following the Board Meeting on Saturday and preceeding the Banquet will be a cocktail hour.

Hershey, Pa. is easily accessible for those driving, since it is but a few miles from the Pennsylvania Turnpike. For those flying, regular scheduled flights are available into nearby Harrisburg where limousine service can be arranged to the hotel.


In Memoriam
C. O. Henriksen, Sr.

C. O. Henriksen, Sr., President of the C. O. Henriksen Company and its subsidiary, American Gunite Co., Chicago, died Friday, May 29 at his home in Lake Zurich, Illinois.

Mr. Henriksen had been active in many of his industry's affairs, having served as chairman of the Apprenticeship Committee of the Mason Contractors Association of America and as Chairman of the National Joint Apprenticeship Committee, Washington, D. C. In addition he was a member of the Executive Board of the MCAA for many years. He was an avid believer in a strong national apprenticeship program to train young men for the masonry industry.

The C. O. Henriksen firm is widely known throughout the United States for its excellence in fire brick masonry construction.

James E. Cozzens

It is with deep regret that we inform you of the death recently of James E. Cozzens, member of the Mason Contractors Association of Washington, D. C. Mr. Cozzens had served that group in many capacities and was the current Treasurer of the association.


Equipment Sales Up

Construction equipment sales at the end of 1964's first quarter show substantial increases over the same period last year, according to nationwide surveys of equipment manufacturers and distributors by Associated Equipment Distributors, national trade association.

A representative group of manufacturers reported that shipments during the first quarter increased an average of 35%, while a region-by-region survey of distributors indicated that sales to contractors and other users had risen approximately 15% over 1963 first quarter levels.

The group of manufacturers polled all agreed the upturn is due to a nationwide increase in construction activity which has resulted in a stronger demand for equipment. Many companies indicate that orders are backlogged in considerable amounts, but are confident in their capacity to meet demands. Consensus is that 1964 total sales will be 20-25% better than 1963.
