Construction Fasteners

Omark Industries, Inc. has greatly expanded its line of construction fasteners with the addition of six new types of concrete and masonry anchors, according to Guy E. Sabin, Vice President and U. S. General Manager. The new anchors, which range from light to extra-heavy duty, consist of Kwik-Set Expansion Studs, multiple unit anchors, lag screw expansion shields, machine screw calking anchors, pin bolts and toggle bolts.

The "workhorses" of the Omark fastener line are multiple unit anchors and Kwik-Set Expansion Studs which are specifically designed to provide extra-heavy holding power in masonry and concrete. Externally-threaded Kwik-Set studs are particularly well-suited for the installation of theater seats, parking meters, support columns and other heavy fixtures. These patented studs are quickly and easily installed with no shields, spotting or over-sized holes required.

New Omark Machine Screw Calking anchors are engineered to provide safe, reliable fastenings in extremely hard masonry and other brittle materials. These easily installed anchors should be used for light to medium duty jobs such as the installation of signs, awnings, antennas, cabinets and mirrors.

A second new anchor designed especially for masonry applications is the Omark Lag Screw Expansion Shield. This anchor provides secure, economical fastenings in irregular holes in brick and other masonry which may crumble under stress. Lag Screw Expansion Shields are available in both short and long lengths to compensate for the varying density of masonry material, and the drilling depth desired.

For light fastenings in concrete, tile, wood, brick and other masonry, Omark offers new Pin Bolt and Toggle bolt Anchors. Pin Bolts are made completely of plated steel and come assembled as complete units, ready for immediate use. Available in both round head and flat head types, these anchors are made for a wide variety of fastening jobs including installation of furring strips, aluminum and steel windows, conduits, piping and similar fixtures.

Power Screed

Two power screed models, one for use with a beam up to 15 ft. and the other up to 30 ft., are announced by the Construction Equipment Division of the Stone Conveyor Co., Inc., Honeoye, New York (14471). Known under the trade name, "Power Strike", the screeds wil be manufactured from new designs by Stone and from parts made and assembled in the one factory.

The "Power Strike" Model VS15 is used for flat or contour short-span work by one man. It is entirely self-contained unit that clamps quickly to a contractor's own 2x4 or 2x6 screed boards. The orbital, strike-off action is uniform throughout the beam length and therefore eliminates honeycomb or overfloated spots. Handle is shock-proof and demountable.

Stone's Model VS30 "Power Strike" Screed, used on 2x6 or 2x8 screed boards, is specially designed for striking off wide slabs. Operating with the same uniform orbital action as the VS15, the V530 consolidates the concrete mass, drives out air pockets, and rearranges the aggregate to a dansely compacted and interlocked mass. Fines are not surfaced, with the VS15 or the VS30, only enough paste to prepare the surface perfectly for subsequent finishing operations.

Technical Bulletin

A new 8-page technical bulletin on the Investigation of Masonry Wall Ties" has been issued by Dur-o-wal.

The bulletin discusses a fundamental study of the compressive and shear resistance of different types of material ties used in cavity wall construction and was an outgrowth of research conducted at the IIT Research Institute. The function of cavity wall ties is described as well as different types of wall ties.

Charts and photographs from the tests are included in this new bulletin.

Commenting on the new buyer's guide, a company spokesman said that operators can select a model from International's wide range of tractor sizes that is scaled in power and price to any particular job. By using the correct power for a job, the company pointed out, the operator will be able to keep overhead down and achieve maximum production at lowest cost.

The International line is comprised of 11 tractor power sizes, ranging from 7 to 119 maximum engine horsepower.

To further match the tractor to the job, each International tractor is available with a wide range of options, assuring purchasers that specifications measure up to job requirements, even on such details as adequate tire sizes to carry the loads to be imposed, or provide the flotation required for ground conditions to be encountered.

Core Drill

The Eveready BrikSaw Company of Kansas City, Missouri, has announced the marketing of a new compact Core Drill, Model CD-115, which is powered by a specially designed Black and Decker, 2 speed, heavy duty, 15 ampere motor.

Instant change of motor speed with a mere shift of the lever is one outstanding feature of the new Eveready Core Drill. This feature allows the operator to choose the most efficient speed for the size of the bit and the material or aggregate to be drilled. Costly "down time" is also eliminated because no time is required to change gears as is the case with ordinary core drill motors.

The Thermal Overload Protector, built into the motor switch, automatically shuts the motor off when subjected to prolonged overloading or improper voltage.

The cast aluminum base of the CD-115 is ribbed reinforced for extra strength and durability. An easy to attach optional feature is the Vacuum Hold Down Unit which provides rigidity without ceiling support.

Other special construction features of the CD-115 include special heat treated gears, ample ventilation for cool operation, high strength aluminum housings and an Adjustable Jack Screw for vertical bracing.

The New Eveready Compact Core Drill is recommended for drilling holes up to 4-1/2 in. in diameter in reinforced concrete, masonry and stone. Specific applications include drilling holes for installation of new plumbing, electrical conduits, steam and refrigerant lines, erecting signs, installing parking meters, road signs, and meter boxes, and many other uses in remodeling and expansion work.

For complete information on the new Eveready Core Drill Model MC-115, or for information on their complete line of masonry and concrete sawing and drilling equipment, contact your nearest Eveready Distributor, located in principal cities coast to coast, or write the company direct at P. O. Box 9652, Kansas City, Missouri 64134.

Multi-Use Fork

Prentice Hydraulics, Inc., nationally known manufacturer of hydraulically operated loaders has recently introduced a new model with a specially designed multi-use fork (patent applied for) for handling building materials. Called the Model GOBC-BR Knuckle Type Prentice Hydraulic Loader, this new unit permits faster, more efficient yard and job-site handling of gypsum wall board, plywood, lumber, roofing, and a variety of palletized building materials. According to the manufacturer, users can reduce operator loading and unloading time by up to 50% and make more deliveries per day with the same crew and equipment. Using this new loader also permits handling mixed loads of sheet materials, lumber, roofing, etc. all with one man, eliminating costly hand labor and possible damage to materials.

This new Prentice Hydraulic Loader mounts behind the cab on any truck, permitting full usage of the truck platform. The loader has its own hydraulic stabilizers.
