Set Meeting Date

The "Dynamics of Standards Applications" will be explored at the 1969 Annual Meeting of the USA Standards Institute, set for November 19-21 at the Statler Hilton Hotel in Detroit, Michigan.

The program will focus on how standards can be and are being used to solve the day-to-day problems of companies, protect the industrial worker and the consumer, and expand exports and international trade.

Industrial executives, members of Congress, high-ranking government officials, and national and international standards administrators will speak during the three-day meeting.

Expand Training School

Because of the growing need for experienced lathers, the number of lathing apprentices enrolled in Chicago's Washburne Trade School will be increased this summer by 50 percent- from 29 to 45 men.

This increase maintains Chicago's standing as one of the largest lathing apprentice training programs in the country, according to Robert Hamilton, lathing instructor at Washburne.

Under the Washburne program, students attend classes one full day per week and work construction jobs, assigned as an apprentice to a contracting firm, on other days. Students in the Chicago area program earn $3.045 per hour and are paid a full day for the time spent in class.

CMAI Names Murphy

The Concrete Masonry Association of Illinois has named the firm of Ellis Murphy, Inc. as an association manager, according to Clyde Stewart, Illinois Brick Company, CMAI president. The announcement came after the recent meeting in Joliet of the CMAI Board of Directors.

The Directors scheduled the association's annual meeting for July 27 and 28 in the vicinity of Rockford, Illinois. They received a report from Frank Newman of F. X. Newman & Sons, Streator, Illinois, on a proposed change in by-laws; Sam Lovewell of Chicago Fly Ash commented on the work of the technical committee.

Arrangements for the meeting in July were assigned to Ellis Murphy who will carry the title of Executive Director of the Association. He has been operating his firm in association management and public relations for more than ten years, is a graduate of Northwestern and Purdue University. Prior to forming his firm he served as director of public relations for the Chicago Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and was on the staff of the Portland Cement Association.

New headquarters for CMAI will be at 600 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60605.

Honor Sullivan

In a surprise presentation during the company's recent national sales meeting, Bolton Sullivan, left, chairman of the board of Chicago-based Skil Corporation, receives one of the first 100 Skilsaw Circular Saws produced by the company in 1924. Skil pioneered the first commercially sold power saws. The presentation honored Mr. Sullivan's 45th anniversary with the company, on July 1. Presenting the Skilsaw electric power saw is Larry LeSieur, western marketing manager of Skil's Industrial/Automotive Products Division. Sullivan is the son of the founder of Skil Corporation, former president of the corporation and father of the current president, John W. Sullivan.

Plan Huge Project

McCulloch Oil Corporation has exercised an option to purchase 32,000 acres of land near Pueblo, Colorado, on which the company plans a "major new city development" similar to its huge project at Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
