NADD Report
By: Jeffrey L. Brock
Washington, D.C.-NADD's mid-year Board of Directors meeting in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina provided the Board with the opportunity to consider committee recommendations, conduct routine business and go over the program for the NADD Annual Meeting. November 14 and 16 were selected as the dates for the next Board meetings to be held in conjunction with the NADD/SCPI Annual Meeting. This year's convention site is The Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
During a recent visit to NADD Headquarters to finalize convention activities, Convention Chairman Joe Weckesser's work has resulted in quite a formal agendum. And as a result of one particular program, the NADD sponsored National AIA Scholarship, the recipient, Gordon Binder of the University of Michigan, will address the NADD Annual Members Meeting Sunday, November 14, 1971. Mr. Binder is in his closing year of a six-year Master of Architecture program at the University.
NADD will start gearing up for the NADD-SCPI Advanced Sales Engineering Course. Actual course date will be announced in the near future, but the Advanced Course has been designed as a truly avant-garde school for the experienced salesman already calling on architectural and engineering firms. The course is designed to give each man a comprehensive up-to-date knowledge of clay products technology and teaches him how to apply this knowledge in today's competitive market.
The Spaulding Brick Company has produced a brochure on the in-the-wall costs work they have been doing with the major Mason Contractors in the Boston area. This brochure tries to show the relative cost of different wall thicknesses and unit sizes so that a comparison can be made with competitive wall systems. NADD President George Hays cited the Northeast Ohio Chapter of NADD's work along similar lines involving the Mason Contractors in Cleveland and Akron areas which has resulted in a book being published that carries similar pertinent information.
Masonry Award Goes to Sengra in Miami
Sengra Development Corp., developers of Miami Lakes, has received the Miami Masonry Guild's "Mark of masonry • September, 1971 Masonry" award for excellence in construction of its single-family homes. According to Guild spokesman George Miller, the award-granted only for the fourth time was presented for the outstanding manner in which Sengra's masonry work was carried out.
Tom Ruddy, Sengra vice president in charge of construction, said the company is building 100 single family homes per year, in addition to heavy construction in apartments and townhouses. He said home sales alone should total about $4.5 million per year.
CMCA Appoints Fraser Executive Director
