The convention officially began on Saturday morning, January 8, with the Executive Board Meeting held in the Pan American Room. Following an address by MCAA legal counsel George Plumb, the annual report and an outline of the activities of the Construction Industry Stabilization Committee were presented by George A. Miller, Executive Vice President, and a discussion was held on the Masonry Industry Craft Board by Anthony Zotollo.

These events were followed in the afternoon by the President's Reception in the Grand Ballroom together with a ribbon-cutting ceremony officially launching the 72 MCAA Educational Trade Show. More than 60 exhibitors representing nearly every segment of the construction industry participated in the show.

On Sunday afternoon, the MCAA Management Institute began and was skilfully moderated by Charles Velardo. The program focused on the "Shapes of Things to Come" and included the following presentations: "Surface Bonding" by William Fitch, Owens/Corning Fiberglas Corp., and Fred Goeman, W. R. Bonsal Co.; "Preview "72" by Dallas Grenley, research chemist, Dow Chemical Co.; "Wedge-Block" by Gordon Parrott, director of advertising and public relations, Wedge Block, Inc.; "Interlocking Concrete Masonry Units" by William J. Colen, Interlock, Inc.; "Masonry System's Mortar Spreader" by William Vetovitz, president, Vetovitz Bros. Mason Contractors, and "Pre-assembled Indiana Limestone Systems" by Edward D. Schmid, Jr., technical administrative director, Indiana

These presentations were followed by a discussion of "Stabilization in the Construction Industry" moderated by David B. Soloff, Jr. Featured speakers were Dr. D. Quinn Mills, secretary of the Construction Industry Stabilization Committee, Washington, D.C., and Thomas F. Murphy, president, Bricklayers, Masons & Plasterers International Union of America.
