With near-unanimous support of its membership, the Structural Clay Products Institute has officially changed its name to the Brick Institute of American effective August 1.

Explaining the nature and purpose of the name change, Richard W. Otterson, executive director, said: "Our primary function is to sell more brick, and the word brick more carefully defines our products. We felt it important that brick be the first word in the name.

"Secondly, the word Institute helps to define the nature of the organization as the center of all educational activity about brick and maintains the stature achieved by the organization through nearly 40 years of service to the industry."

The Institute's headquarters remain in McLean, Va.
