Oregon OSHA Review
In a special meeting with David James, coordinator of the Oregon effort to qualify, the OCIC committee, chaired by Ray Wimer of the Oregon Masonry Guild, learned that a state plan had been developed and was now being reviewed. Significant legislative changes will be required. A final program must be in the hands of the Seattle office of the Bureau of Labor by June 1.
One of the several concerns expressed by the committee is lack of a program for joint employer-employe responsibility for on-the-job safety. Under Federal law, responsibility lies with the employer.
Cool Schools
The United States has the coolest schools in the world, according to a leading air conditioning manufacturer. More than a third of all the schools and colleges in the nation are air conditioned entirely or in part, and the majority of new schools being built or planned include air conditioning as a primary design element, notes the York Division of Borg-Warner Corp.
The growth of year-round or tri-mester programs in order to better utilize educational facilities in the face of larger enrollments is among the prime factors contributing to the fast growth of air conditioning in American schools, according to York. Coupled with this is the growing utilization of schools for community activities.
