# MCAA Seattle Chapter
# Studies Masonry Standards
The establishment of masonry standards for Region G was one of the principal topics of discussion at the October meeting of the MCAA Seattle chapter.
MCAA Northwest Field Representative Ray F. Wimer, who has been making studies of the subject, made a formal presentation at the meeting. He was assisted by William "Nels" Smith, MCAA Regional Vice President, and Gene Salveson, Executive Director of the Masonry Institute of Washington.
Also covered in depth at the conference were: masonry cleaning and waterproofing; the general contractor's responsibility to subcontractors; all-weather construction protection, and field and laboratory testing of mortars and grout.
# Insurance For Contractors
Walter T. Derk, MCAA Insurance Consultant, advises that the revised, expanded and up-dated 4th edition of this valuable book will be off the press by November 15th.
# Honor Murphy For 25 Years Of Service
Joining in congratulating Thomas F. Murphy. President, Bricklayers, Masons & Plasterers' International Union, center, at a banquet honoring him for 25 years of Executive Board Service are: (I. to r.) John T. Joyce, Secretary, BM&PIU; Edward M. Bellucci, Treasurer, BM&PIU; Charles F. Velardo, President, Mason Contractors Association of America: Thomas F. Murphy: George A. Miller, MCAA Executive Vice President; James F. Richardson, Ist Vice President, BM&PIU and Anthony Zotollo, MCAA Regional Vice President. Over 1200 persons gathered in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf-Astoria, New York, on September 27th. Co-chairmen of the affair were Andrew Lawler and Albert Cerussi. In attendance were U.S. Senator James Buckley and Governor Malcolm Wilson.
# "Masonry" Plaque Presented to Michigan Architects
Architects Sanford Rossen (second from left) and Kenneth Neumann (center) of Rossen/Neumann Associates, Southfield, Mich., receive a plaque from "Masonry" magazine recognizing one of the firm's award-winning projects, the Burton Abstract & Title Company building in Troy, Mich., which was the cover feature for the August issue. # GSA Selects Motto
"Serving Government, Serving People" has been selected as the official motto of the U.S. General Services Administration from some 1,600 suggestions submitted by agency employees nationwide. The motto was adopted in conjunction with GSA's 25th anniversary.

Bernard Richards, president of Alpha Portland Industries, Inc., Easton, Pa., and chairman of its subsidiary, Slattery Associates, Inc., has been appointed to serve as a member of the board of New York City's Industrial Development Agency...
