Architectural Design Competition Announced

Michigan's first architectural honor awards competition for excellence in masonry design has been announced by the Masonry Institute of Michigan. The competition is co-sponsored by the Michigan Society of Architects, and is open to the 1,200 registered architects in the state who are members of MSA.

Michigan buildings or projects completed since May 1, 1972, are eligible. There are no special categories. All entries will be judged on overall excellence of design by an awards jury made up of prominent architects from a major city outside Michigan.

To participate in the competition, architects must submit their entry slips and registration fees ($30.00 per entry) to the Masonry Institute by August 19, 1975. Completed entries must be received by October 27. The awards, bronze plaques for both the architects and the winning buildings, will be presented at a banquet in January 1976.

"For years, Michigan has been a center of outstanding masonry design," said John A. Heslip, executive director of the Masonry Institute. "Now, through this annual competition, we will have a forum for honoring those architects who design so well with man's oldest building material."

Any questions should be directed to the Masonry Institute, a non-profit corporation dedicated to the promotion of masonry construction. The Institute is located at 27600 Farmington Road in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Telephone number is (313) 476-2495.
