# Masonry Awards

# Announced for Texas
The Masonry Institute of Houston-Galveston has announced its first awards competition, and is inviting architects and designers to submit entries for buildings utilizing masonry. Named for pioneering Texas architect Nicholas Clayton, the awards will be presented on April 22 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Houston. # Koehring, Fruehauf End

# Merger Discussions
Koehring Co., Milwaukee, Wis., has announced that negotiations on the proposed merger with Fruehauf Corp., Detroit, Mich., have been terminated. Merger talks between the two firms were first announced on January 6.

Koehring is a multinational machinery manufacturer serving the construction field and other markets. Fruehauf is the world's largest manufacturer of truck trailers.


# Irmscher Heads Medusa
The appointment of W. G. Irmscher as president of Medusa Cement Co., Cleveland, Ohio, has been announced by Robert W. Fort, chairman and chief executive officer of Medusa Corp., the parent company. Irmscher also has been elected a vice president of the corporation.

Irmscher joined Medusa in 1970 as vice president-sales of the Great Lakes Region in Detroit. He moved to the Cleveland headquarters a year later and was appointed vice president-marketing in 1972. He has been responsible for all marketing activities including planning, pricing, distribution and promotion throughout the company's sales area.

After graduating from Purdue University with a B.S. degree in civil engineering, Irmscher began his career in the cement industry in 1946 where he has held sales engineering and management positions.

A new slide presentation designed to provide mason contractors with an overview of the basic principles of loadbearing masonry construction and guidelines to the efficient and profitable management of loadbearing projects is available from the International Masonry Institute.

The presentation, entitled Loadbearing & the Mason Contractor, is intended to be helpful to mason contractors already involved in the field of loadbearing masonry construction as well as those who wish to prepare to enter the field. The presentation of 75, 2 x 2 color slides may be used alone, or in conjunction with local and regional seminars on loadbearing masonry construction.

# MIM Reelects Officers
Joel Lutz, president, Kanfer Construction Co., Inc., Oak Park, has been reelected president of the Masonry Institute of Michigan. All other 1976 officers also were reelected for 1977 at the group's annual meeting held recently in Dearborn. They are: Frank J. Soave, Cavanaugh & Soave, Inc., Troy, vice president; Howard J. Hicks, Ebeling & Hicks, Inc., Romeo, secretary; Joe Forte, G. Forte Co., St. Claire Shores, assistant secretary; Robert F. Three sales management appointments have been announced by Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corp., Toledo, Ohio. Robert M. Shern has been named eastern regional sales manager and Benjamin N. Coe has been appointed Pacific Coast regional sales manager for the Building Materials Group, and Jerry C. Sutter has been appointed manager, residential and retail sales for the Insulation Operating Division.
