# Rockford Contractor Donald Larson Dies
Donald F. Larson, president of the Rockford (III.) mason contracting firm of Donald F. Larson & Sons, Inc., died on July 24 in Rockford Memorial Hospital after a two-week illness. He was 50.
Mr. Larson had been an MCAA member for many years and one of the Association's most enthusiastic supporters. He rarely missed an important MCAA function and was recently appointed to the MCAA Education Committee.
Mr. Larson's company is one of the best known and respected in the Rockford area. Before forming his own organization in 1976, he was associated with his late father and a brother in Gust G. Larson & Sons, Inc., a general contracting firm in Rockford. That firm built several of the buildings at Rockford College, Keith Country Day School's new building, Harlem High School North, and many other structures in recent years.
Survivors include his widow, Marjorie; a son, Donald C.; a daughter, Debra; two stepsons, Michael and Thomas Vincent, and five stepdaughters, Jane, Rosemary, Katherine, Teresa, and Margaret Vicent: and a brother, Harold B.
# Evans Expands "Target" Operations In Canada
Robert G. Evans Company of Canada Ltd. has opened a new office and warehouse in Mississauga, Ont. The greatly expanded facilities feature spacious offices, warehousing and shipping areas, and an attractive display room where "Target" products can be seen.
The Evans Company, which is headquartered in Kansas City, Mo., manufactures a full line of saws, diamond blades, reinforced abrasive blades and diamond drills for virtually every need in the masonry field.

# BIA Masonry Sales Class
The Brick Institute of America will conduct its new and revised Sales Training Course in Brick Masonry Technology, September 19-30. This course will combine both the three-week Basic course material and the one-week Advanced course into a concentrated two-week session.
The class will be conducted with a minimum of 10 students and a maximum of 20. In the event enrollment exceeds the 20 maximum, a second class is tentatively scheduled for January 30-February 10, 1978. Obtain more information from Alan H. Yorkdale, P.Ε., ΒΙΑ, 1750 Old Meadow Rd., McLean, Va. 22101.
# Atlanta Awards Contract For Airport Project
The city of Atlanta has awarded a $95 million contract for construction of Phase T-1 of the new Central Passenger Terminal Complex at the existing Hartsfield International Airport to a joint venture headed by The George Hyman Construction Co., Bethesda, Md.
Hyman will be the sponsoring partner in a joint venture with Ozanne Construction Co., Cleveland, Ohio, and Humber, Hunt & Nichols, Inc., Indianapolis, Ind. The three architectural firms for the airport are Stevens & Wilkinson; Smith, Hinchman & Grylls, and Minority Airport Architects and Planners.
# NCMA Contracts to Build New Headquarters & Lab
The National Concrete Masonry Association, McLean, Va., has announced the signing of a contract to build its new headquarters and laboratory. Total cost of the project will be $1.134.000, exclusive of architectural fees and land.
The building, fronting on Dulles Access Highway, will be the first one visible coming from Dulles Airport. A split fluted block will be used for the exterior with lightweight scored block on the interior, including all partitions. The structure will house a 10,000-square-foot research and development lab, and 19,000 square feet of office space, of which 5.000 square feet will be rented and available for future expansion.
The floor of the laboratory will accommodate a testing frame with a capacity to test up to 2 million psi. This will give NCMA the ability to test grouted prisms for most applications for engineered c'm walls. The testing frame itself will have to be built and is not included in the building construction cost.

Janice Kay Mendenhall, who began her federal career as a management intern in 1969, has been named director of administration, U.S. General Services Administration. GSA administrator Jay Solomon said the 31-year-old Ms. Mendenhall will be the highest ranking woman in the agency. The Expanded Shale Clay & Slate Institute has announced the appointment of Harry C. Robinson as managing director, succeeding Frank G. Erskine, who had served in that capacity.
