Charles W. Ostrander, a professional engineer in the state of Illinois, has joined the staff of the Chicago Masonry Institute Promotion Trust. The Portland Cement Association has appointed Kenneth Gillespie manager of media services. He will provide the construction and business press with information about concrete in all construction applications.

McCann Construction Specialties, Addison, III., has added Thomas Hebson to its sales force. Hebson is a 25-year veteran of the construction and distribution industries. Donald Greenfield is the new personnel and safety manager at the San Andreas (Calif.) plant of the Flintkote Co.'s Calaveras Cement Division.
Universal Manufacturing Corp., Zelienople, Pa., producer of steel scaffolding and hoist towers, has announced the appointment of Chester J. Swick as sales manager with responsibility for all district sales offices as well as domestic and export sales. Kenneth E. Glass has been appointed president of Massey-Ferguson, Inc., Des Moines, Ia., the U.S. operating subsidiary of Massey-Ferguson Limited, and as general manager of the company's North American Operations. Larry Pulsipher, vice president of Rozema & Pulsipher Builders, is the new 1978 vice president for the Central Area of the Mason Contractors Association of Utah.

New Film Library Covers Basics of Metric System
Educational Film Systems, Inc. of Los Angeles has introduced a 50-film industrial library designed to aid management and labor in grasping the basics of the metric system to which this nation will soon convert. "The biggest obstacle to America's conversion to the metric system and its subsequent economic benefits is the reluctance of the public to accept change," said an official of the firm. "One of the reasons our films are so special is that they are entertaining as well as instructive, and they deal with simple, easily-understood functions performed by the man-on-the-job."
Each film is introduced by a sports or screen personality such as Foster Brooks, Jack Palance and Noah Beery. Eight of the films deal specifically with the building industry, and one zeroes in directly on masonry.

NBS Conference Postponed
The National Conference on Uniformity In Construction Documentation, to have been held at the National Bureau of Standards on March 13-14 in Gaithersburg, Md., has been postponed due to winter weather conditions. A new conference date has been set for October 24-25, 1978.
The conference, which will seek solutions to lack of uniformity in construction documentation, is sponsored by the NBS Center for Building Technology, the Construction Specifications Institute, and the Federal Construction Council of the National Academy of Sciences' Building Research Advisory Board.
New BIA Slide Shows
The Brick Institute of America has begun marketing a series of four new slide shows dealing with unit masonry construction. The shows are titled "Brick: A Marketing Material That Builds Sales," "Brick: An Investment In Your Community's Future," "The Making of Brick," and "Bonds and Patterns."
