Jury Comment: The building has a vocabulary of strong circular forms which contrast with the recitilinear nature of the plan. Well landscaped earth berms help modify the climate on the north side while generous overhangs control the sun on the southern exposure. The masonry craftsmanship is of a higher order and has coped well with the architectural demands put upon it.

This is an impressive building which has had to cope with undistinguished neighbors. Its boldly handled structure displays well the character and capabilities of 8" x 8" jumbo brick. Within, skylit spaces and planting together with bold use of color and excellent masonry complete this contribution to the masonry tradition at McMaster.

Jury Comment: What at first sight appears to be a collection of somewhat arbitrary forms reveals itself, on closer inspection, to be an arresting image building for an active company. A long, narrow site has been transformed into a sequence of linked spaces and livened by skylit wells.

The brickwork has a dark grey tinted mortar which, although not blending with the brick color, nevertheless picks out the shadows in the indentations, producing a pleasant unifying effect. The jury had some reservations over the diagonal fenestrations on the east wall, but on the whole appreciated the effort which had gone into this interesting little building.
