According to Charles Danna, board chairman of the Masonry Institute of Atlanta, the awards program was introduced to recognize those architects in the Atlanta area who were willing to have their work judged in competition with other professional practitioners of the art of architecture. The first program was limited to members of the Atlanta Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
"It is anticipated that this will be an annual award," Danna said. "It also must be pointed out that without the cooperation of the Atlanta and Georgia Chapters of AIA, this program would not have been possible."
