General Dynamics Offers
To Buy Cement Division
National Gypsum Co. and General Dynamics Corp. announced they have entered into an agreement in principle for the sale of National Gypsum's cement division to General Dynamics. The transaction would involve approximately $100 million.
National Gypsum Co. produces a diversified line of building, construction and remodeling products. General Dynamics Corp. is engaged in engineering, development and manufacture of various products for the U.S. and foreign governments.
Plasticrete to Market
Energy-related Products
Plasticrete Block & Supply Corp., North Haven, Conn., announced it has formed Plasticrete Distributors Corp. to serve principally as a distributor of energy-related and home improvement products.
The initial product lines consist of wood/coal stoves, zero clearance fireplaces, masonry circulators (energy-efficient inserts built into masonry fireplaces), insulated chimney systems, solid fuels such as coal and pressed firelogs, and a wide range of stove and fireplace accessories.
Beiner Appointed IMI
Director of Engineering
Robert J. Beiner, a professional engineer with more than 20 years' experience in building design, construction and marketing, has joined the International Masonry Institute, Washington, D.C., as director of engineering.
Beiner formerly was northeast area manager and assistant chief engineer for the American Institute of Steel Construction, with offices in New York City.
With IMI, Beiner will direct activities that provide engineering and technical support for all the Institute's marketing programs. He also will be active in the area of government relations and will work with staff engineers of the more than 80 local-regional masonry institutes that have been formed in the U.S. and Canada.
Beiner is a native of New Jersey and holds bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He served as project manager for a consulting engineering firm and as project facilities manager for Western Electric Co. prior to joining the American Institute of Steel Construction.
Annual Book of ASTM
Standards Released
The American Society for Testing & Materials, developers of over 5,900 active voluntary consensus standards used throughout the world, has released new Part 16 of its Annual Book of ASTM Standards.
