'80 MCAA Conference Report
The 1980 MCAA Convention was held in San Diego, California, February 24-28. The convention was well attended and the business sessions were informative and productive.
The convention officially opened on Monday, February 25, with concurrent business sessions. The first session was a seminar on "Contract Law for Masonry Contractors." The seminar was conducted by Attorney Robert Merritt, General Counsel for the MCAA.
The second concurrent session was a panel discussion on "Masonry Promotion Programs." Panel members included Thomas E. Telford, Executive Director of the Masonry Industry Advancement Committee of Michigan; John A. Heslip, Executive Director of the Ontario Masonry Contractors' Association; and Fred D. Arbogast, Executive Director of the Masonry Institute of St. Louis.
The afternoon business session was a general business meeting of the MCAA. Reports were given by the various committees of the Association.
Tuesday's business session was devoted to a seminar on "Estimating Masonry Construction." The seminar was conducted by Mr. William Booth, a masonry contractor from Dallas, Texas.
The Wednesday business session was a panel discussion on "Masonry Research and Development." Panel members included Dr. James Amrhein, Executive Director of the Masonry Institute of America; Mr. Clayford Grimm, Consulting Engineer from Austin, Texas; and Mr. Robert Beiner, Research Associate with the National Concrete Masonry Association.
The convention concluded on Thursday, February 28, with a golf tournament and an awards banquet.
