MI of Atlanta Appoints Spence Exec. Director
George C. Spence, retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, has been named executive director of the Masonry Institute of Atlanta. He will succeed John B. "Scotty" Dahin, who announced his retirement effective June 1, 1980.
A native of Atlanta, Spence has more than 30 years of public and government relations experience and has spent 15 years in association management. His contacts with the financial and professional community are well established, particularly with architects, planners, developers and contractors, the Masonry Institute announcement said.
Spence is a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law.
MI of lowa Names Oetken Marketing Consultant
The Masonry Institute of Iowa has appointed Jim Oetken, a media and marketing professional from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as its marketing consultant. Oetken, who most recently was vice president/station manager of WMT-TV, will work for the Institute on a part-time basis.
Oetken has spent 18 years in broadcast sales and station management and currently is marketing director of McConnell, Steveley, Anderson, Architects and TV spokesman for Bohemian Savings & Loan Association of Cedar Rapids. He teaches broadcast advertising at the University of Iowa and conducts free-lance workshops and seminars in communications, sales, marketing and management.
His chief responsibility with the Masonry Institute of Iowa will be to promote the masonry industry in that area.
Morse/Diesel Sets Up Boston Office
Morse/Diesel, Inc., a national construction management/consulting firm, has established its Boston office at 286 Congress St. Edward C. Collins, vice president, will be responsible for all Boston operations.
New Officers Elected by MCA Of Milwaukee
The Mason Contractors Association of Milwaukee recently elected new officers for 1980. They are: Lawrence D. Gruman, president: Elmer Brunner, first vice president: Eldred Heidschmidt, second vice president; Joe Miotke, secretary; Jim Marino, treasurer, and Robert Reisner, Joe Stelzl and Duke Dupre, directors.
Three Groups Relocate
Three organizations in the masonry field the Masonry Institute of Oregon, the Portland Chapter of MCAA, and the Ceramic Tile Institute of Oregon-have moved their offices to: 3609 S.W. Corbett, Suite 4, Portland, Ore. 97201. (503) 224-1940, effective February 1. 1980.
St. Louis Plans Awards
The Masonry Institute of St. Louis has begun contacting area architects with invitations to participate in its annual Excellence In Masonry architectural awards program for buildings recently completed in the St. Louis vicinity. Presentation of the awards will be made in May, 1980.
Don Grant Installed as St. Louis MCA President
Donald C. Grant, P.E., was recently installed as president of the Mason Contractors Association of St. Louis. A graduate of Washington University School of Engineering, Grant is president of Grant Contracting, Inc. and has been in the mason contracting business for 21 years. He is also current chairman of the Masonry Institute of St. Louis.
Others installed as officers of the MCA of St. Louis were Edward E. Bach as vice president: John Smith as secretary, and E. C. "Cliff" Landers as treasurer.
