Congratulations to Suzie and Bernard Strauss (MCAA), Birmingham, Ala., the proud parents of a newly born son, David Harry, who weighed in at 8 lbs. 13 oz. on November 28, 1980. A. Harry Wagner, who retired from Southern Brick Contractors, Inc. several years ago, reports he is enjoying his part-time activity as executive secretary of the Virginia Concrete Masonry Association in Richmond and sends his best wishes to the MCAA members. The Masonry Advancement Fund of British Columbia has appointed Bruce G. Peter, P.E., director of masonry promotion. He will serve in the same function for the B.C. and Yukon Chapters of the Canadian Masonry Contractors Association.

Good news department: Pete Baier, Honorary Member of MCAA, has relocated his residence from Tavares, Fla., back to his old stamping grounds in Hobart, Ind. He and his wife, Helen, are enjoying good health, and Pete recently celebrated his 76th birthday. Their mailing address is RR #2, Hobart, IN 46342. William H. Gatenby, vice president of Harvey Hubbell, Inc., was reelected to a second term as chairman of the Electrical Manufacturers Standards Council.


"Masonry Week" Proclaimed in Oregon

Governor Vic Atiyeh proclaimed the week of November 17-24, 1980, as "Masonry Week" in Oregon and urged Oregonians to consider the environmental and architectural contributions made by masonry products. Numerous activities sponsored by the Masonry and Ceramic Tile Institutes of Oregon highlighted the week. Among the activities were the Hammurabi Awards luncheon honoring architects from Oregon and Southwest Washington, and a structural engineering design seminar. Witnessing the proclamation signing were (standing from left) Al Thomas, Bricklayers Union: Gordon Davidson, Davidson's Masonry: Bill Belanger, Bricklayers Union: Ken Storey, GKW Inc.: Thomas Young, Masonry Institute: Dave Seitzinger, Dave's Masonry, and MCAA regional vice president L. Stupar Named Manager of Bricklayer Pension Fund

Frank Stupar, a bricklayer active in fringe benefit and pension administration since 1968, has been appointed manager of the Bricklayers & Trowel Trades International Pension Fund in Washington, D.C., the Fund's board of trustees announced.

Stupar had been acting administrative manager since June, 1980. Before that he had served as deputy administrative manager, as manager of the Fund's Collection department, and as a trust investigator for the Bricklayers Fringe Benefit Funds of the Metropolitan Detroit area.

The Bricklayers' pension system is jointly operated by the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen, the Mason Contractors Association of America, and the Tile Contractors Association of America.
