They added that "IMI is an effort to meet this new necessity, and as such it carries with it our hopes and faith that it will advance the interests of mason contractors and craftsmen, the masonry industry, and, indeed, the entire building industry and all its clients."
The IMI board of trustees accepted the suggestion of Dr. Dunlop that both sides agree on the importance of "objective data gathering and analysis" as a prerequisite to problem solving, and that, because collective bargaining takes place between local units of the two organizations, MCAA and BAC should analyze the optimum geographic configuration of these bargaining units.
In addition to its board of trustees, IMI has "program boards" for each of its four programs.
The program board for research and development at its meeting initiated the process of developing a set of priorities for meeting industry-wide masonry research needs, as well as the specific research needs of mason contractors and craftsmen, and of establishing a working relationship with the Masonry Research Foundation.
The apprenticeship and training program board resolved to re-focus the attention of this continuing program on the need to foster skills required by new materials and methods, and for uniform standards in apprentice training.
