BIA Presents First Brick Industry Award
John H. Isenhour Sr. (right), board chairman of Isenhour Brick & Tile Co., Salisbury, N.C., is the recipient of the brick industry's first annual Outstanding Achievement Award presented by the Brick Institute of America. The honor, developed to recognize noteworthy service to brick manufacturing, recognized Isenhour's 50-year commitment to innovation in kiln design and industry leadership. The award was presented at the banquet of the 47th annual convention of the Brick Institute of America at The Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., in November, 1981, by George C. Sells (left), chairman of General Shale Products Corp.
Isenhour, who has devoted his entire career to the structural clay products field, graduated from North Carolina State College in 1933 with a degree in ceramic engineering. Throughout his career he has devoted much of his company's efforts to research and development to improve product and plant productivity. He is especially noted for his pioneering efforts in improved kiln design.
ANSI Issues Standards
Protecting workers and the public against potential hazards arising out of construction and demolition operations is the purpose of four new and revised standards published recently by the American National Standards Institute.
The standards cover safety requirements for: Personnel Hoists (ANSI A10.4-1981); Material Hoists (ANSI A10.5-1981); Temporary and Portable Space Heating Devices and Equipment Used in the Construction Industry (ANSI A10.10-1981), and Construction of Tunnels, Shafts and Caissons (ANSI A10.16-1981).
