Arizona MCA Creates "Watchdog" Program
A program identifying mason contractors best able to observe quality performance standards has been established in the interest of owners, developers and design practitioners by the Arizona Mason Contractors Association.
The "Certificate of Assurance" program recognizes those mason contractors who have a demonstrated record of quality workmanship, bondability and financial stability.
Recent changes in the authority of the Registrar of Contractors Office in Arizona have created a "climate of uncertainty" in the selection of subcontractors on non-residential construction projects, according to Jim Hari, AMCA president.
"As a result," he said, "design practitioners, general contractors, developers and owners share an increasing concern over the lack of assurance that quality performance standards will be observed. The 'Certified Mason Contractors' program is a sincere attempt to respond to this need."
Participation in the program is totally voluntary. Applications were sought by the AMCA Certification Committee from all eligible mason contractors in the state.
Pee Dee Ceramics Unveils New Paver Line
Pee Dee Ceramics, Florence, S.C., manufacturer of natural clay pavers, has unveiled a new marketing program and product line designed to move the company into markets never before serviced in its 96-year history.
Key elements of the program are a new corporate logo and the development of the name "Carolina Naturals," which signifies the natural rustic character of Pee Dee's products.
In addition, the firm is introducing the SLS Installation System, a new package of 2-in. thick natural clay pavers and setting materials which can save both time and expense when used in interior installations.

SPREADS BETTER... COSTS LESS
Easy-Spred, the mortar additive that replaces lime.
Easy-Spred is a mortar plasticizer that performs better and costs less to use than lime. One 7 lb. bag of Easy-Spred replaces one 50 lb. bag of lime. Produces smoother, creamier, more workable mortar. Spreads like butter for easy tooling of joints and better flow to cross joints. Head joints need not be rebuttered.
Easy to mix, requires little re-tempering and is non-toxic. Will not burn skin or eyes. Use of the convenient 7 lb. bag means less bulk to transport, store, handle and mix.
Easy-Spred is made from a formulation of minerals naturally compatible with basic ingredients in mortar. Effective for use with brick, block or stucco.
BOCA, ICBO and Southern Building Code Conference approved.
