# Don Leonard Featured In Magazine Interview
The May, 1982 issue of Brick & Clay Record, a national trade publication covering the brick manufacturing field, carried an extensive interview with MCAA President Don Leonard.
The three-page, question-answer feature discusses industry promotion, labor relations, panelization and a number of other topics of paramount importance to the masonry industry.
# PCMA Elects Officers
Joseph J. Fizzano of Fizzano Brothers Concrete Products, Crum Lynne, has been elected president of the Pennsylvania Concrete Masonry Association.
Elected to serve with him were: vice president, Theodore Lewis, Scranton Building Block Co., Scranton; treasurer, William A. Rennekamp Jr., Rennekamp Supply Co., Pittsburgh, and secretary, Merrill Landis, Landis Block Co., Souderton.
Dean W. Miller and V. James Gianoni serve as board chairman and executive director, respectively, of PCMA.

# MCAA Insurance Consultant Walter Derk Elected President of National Association
Walter T. Derk, MCAA's insurance consultant and executive vice president of Fred S. James & Co. of Illinois, Chicago, has been elected president of the National Association of Insurance Brokers. Members of NAIB constitute brokers and agents responsible for the majority of commercial insurance placed in the worldwide marketplace and risk management services performed in the United States.
Since his election to the NAIB board of directors six years ago, Derk has represented the association and its insured clients by chairing Laws & Legislation, Research & Development, Liability, Workplace Health & Safety, and other committees, and acted as Producers Liaison Representative to the Insurance Services Office in New York.

# Energy Efficiency Guide Produced in Canada
A new "Guide to Energy Efficiency In Masonry and Concrete Buildings" has been produced by the Masonry Council of Canada, with financial assistance from Canada Mortgage & Housing Corp.
It is claimed to be the first publication of its kind to be prepared specifically for the purpose of assisting in the design of larger, energy-conserving masonry and concrete structures.

# MCAA Represented at Masonry Research Foundation Conference
MCAA President Donald Leonard and Executive Vice President George A. Miller attended the recent meeting of the Masonry Research Foundation held in Santa Fe, N.M.
The Foundation is a non-profit corporation devoted to sponsoring, conducting and supervising research into the design and use of masonry products of all types. Members of the Foundation are MCAA, IMI, BIA, BAC, LIUNA, NCMA, NLA and PCA.
Progress reports were presented on several ongoing research programs including: a composite brick/block wall testing project at the University of Florida; research on Trombe walls at Alfred University, and a project at the Masonry Research Centre for indexing and centralizing information on all masonry research underway so as to prevent duplication of efforts.
The Masonry Industry Committee also met to hear oral presentations on four proposals for conducting an industry marketing study. In field developments will be announced shortly.
# Miss North Carolina Makes Presentation
Miss North Carolina/USA Jeannine Boger recently presented North Carolina Governor James B. Hunt Jr. (left) and Sanford, N.C., Mayor Rex McLeod with a set of engraved bricks. Gov. Hunt recognized the contribution of the brick industry to the state and expressed hope for a renewed level of prosperity for the industry following an upswing in the economy.
