IMI's Masonry Research Advisory Council Elects New Officers

The Masonry Research Advisory Council of the International Masonry Institute has elected Mario Catani chairman and Dr. James Colville vice chairman.

The elections took place at the Council's recent Annual Meeting in Monterey, Calif. Catani previously served as the Council's vice chairman, and succeeds William Lefkofsky, P.E., Detroit, Mich., who completed a two-year term.

Catani is a professional engineer and an authority on structural engineering. He has actively participated on many national code and construction-related committees and is presently chairman of a committee writing a new national masonry design code.

Catani earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Manhattan College in New York City and a Master's degree from New Jersey Institute of Technology. He is president and general manager of Dur-O-Wal. Inc., Northbrook, III., manufacturer of masonry reinforcing systems. Earlier, he was director of the Building Construction Division of the Portland Cement Association.

Dr. Colville, chairman of the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Maryland, is an expert on masonry engineering and construction, and has served as consultant to many private and governmental agencies.

IMI's Masonry Research Advisory Council is composed of leading authorities in the fields of architecture, engineering, education and construction. The Council was established in 1980 to assist the masonry industry in developing research projects and focusing its research efforts in a manner that would better serve the interests of the masonry industry.

Business as Usual at Pettibone Michigan

On January 31, 1986, Pettibone Corp., including Pettibone Michigan, Inc., manufacturer of the Extendo and Cary-Lift lines of rough terrain forklifts, filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

"Pettibone has successfully negotiated a cash collateral agreement with its lenders and the court, and is conducting business as usual while company restructuring is completed," reports Jim Lamb, division vice president.

Since July, 1985, the Extendo line has enjoyed a constant increase in monthly sales, with February and March recording the highest level of monthly sales in recent years, Lamb said. "Our distributors and customers are showing they have confidence in us, and Pettibone Michigan is currently a profitable, self-sustaining division," according to Lamb.

In general, a Chapter 11 petition allows a company to continue to operate under the supervision of the court. The filing imposes a federal injunction against past creditors, preventing actions and lawsuits to collect money or property from the company.
