The FWA Group, one of the Southeast's oldest and largest architectural firms, has opened a full-service office at Enterprise Center, 225 Water St., Jacksonville, Florida. Arnold Prato, AIA, has joined the firm as associate principal and will manage the Jacksonville office. Registration forms for Excellence In Masonry '87 have been sent to all architects and mason contractors in the Chicago and Northwest Indiana areas. The presentations will be held on Saturday, April 9, 1988 at the Hamilton Hotel, Itasca, IL. The architectural firm of Flemming/Baker has moved to Unit #6, 300 Welland Ave., St. Catharines, Ont. L2R 6Y3.

Randolph Goss has been appointed to the position of Sales Director, Southwest Region, Hertz Equipment Rental Corp. (HERC). Donna S. Swanson has been promoted to sales coordinator for Conproco Corp., Concord, NH. The Minnesota Concrete & Masonry Contractors Association have a new address. The Illinois Concrete Products Association was recently formed to represent masonry producers in promotion and education of the building industry and the public. Worth Supply Co. has been named a Pettibone Extendo distributor in New York. It will provide complete sales and service in the counties of Suffolk, Nassau, Queens, Kings New York and Bronx. USG Corporation has announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, UGG Industries, Inc., has signed an agreement to purchase DAP, Inc. from Beecham Group PLC, based in London. DAP is a leading domestic producer of caulks, sealants, adhesives and related products. Richard White has been named a regional manager for Styrofoam Brand Products, Dow Chemical USA and will be located in Chicago. Edward A. Abdun-Nur, consulting engineer in Denver, CO, has been named a 1987 recipient of ASTM's Award of Merit.

Thatcher Backhoe in U.S.

On November 6, 1986, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher visited the JCB headquarters and placed her signature on a new piece of the company's equipment. On September 19th, JCB, Hertz Equipment Rental Corp. (HERC) and the Fishel Co. celebrated the entrance of the "Margaret Thatcher" backhoe into the United States. The ceremony welcoming the piece of equipment into the U.S. took place at the Hertz Equipment's Forest Park, George branch. HERC will rent this backhoe to their customers and donate the proceeds to the Nancy Reagan Drug Abuse Fund.

The Fishel Co., Columbus, Ohio, became the first Hertz Equipment customer to rent the "Margaret Thatcher" backhoe.

"Contractors are tired of waiting for their money and frustrated by the long and costly legal battles created by the Miller Act," stated McKay.

The Associated Specialty Contractors (ASC) of which MCAA is a member, is an umbrella organization representing the interests of eight major specialty construction trade associations, which in turn represent the interests of over 165,000 contracting firms. Specialty subcontractors perform up to 80% of all Federal building construction work and approximately 95% of these contractors qualify as small businesses.

DESIGN COMPETITION

The St. Clair Region Society of Architects and the Toronto Society of Architects with the Masonry Promotion group in each Society area will be sponsoring a Masonry Project Design Award Competition during the winter months. All architects in the Society areas will receive notification of the dates, presentation and eligibility requirements during the fall of 1987.
