# HONOR LUCZYNSKI
Tony Luczynski, MCAA Material Handling Chairman and former State Chairman-Illinois, was made an Honorary Member of the Mason Contractors Association of DuPage County (III.) at a joint meeting of the DuPage and Cook County Chapters held at Sage's Restaurant, Arlington Heights, IL. Tony had served the DuPage Chapter in many capacities and has been Material Handling Chairman since 1982. He has done a masterful job in handling the Masonry ShowCase, a live demonstration of rough terrain forklifts, held in conjunction with the annual MCAA Show.

# BIA Names Borchelt
The Brick Institute of America has named J. Gregg Borchelt its Director of Engineering & Research. Borchelt who will begin his job on May 9, succeeds the late Alan Yorkdale. Borchelt, 44, has served as the director of the Masonry Institute of Houston & Galveston since 1975. He is past president of the Masonry Society and during the last five years has taught at Rice University and has performed as a private consultant working on a variety of masonry projects. Gregg received both his bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering from Purdue University. He is a member of ASCE, the American Concrete Institute and the Construction Specifications Institute. Borchelt is a Registered Professional Engineer in Colorado and Texas.

# Pfleger New President of St. Louis Chapter
"I accept the challenge, and I won't let you down." This was the promise of Ronald F. Pfleger after he was installed as President of the Mason Contractors Association of St. Louis (MCA). The installation took place during the Association's dinner dance held in St. Louis on Jan. 30. Over 460 MCA contractor and supplier members, wives and guests attended the annual event. Pfleger succeeded Carl J. Heumann, who had served as MCA President since 1986. For more than ten years, Pfleger has served MCA in a variety of volunteer leadership positions, including Treasurer, Secretary and as a member of the Arbitration Board. During the last two years, he served as Vice President of the Association. He is also a trustee of the pension and welfare funds for Bricklayers' Local No. 1 in St. Louis. He was also a trustee of the Masonry Institute of St. Louis. Pfleger became a member of MCA in 1974. He owns his own firm, Ron Pfleger Brick Contractor, Inc., which is involved in both single and multi- family residential construction. In recent years he has also completed masonry work on a number of commercial buildings in the St. Louis area. In reviewing his last two years as MCA President, Heumann, who is also

# Reagan Appoints Brown
C. DeWitt Brown, MCAA Past President, has been appointed by President Reagan to serve on the National Council on Vocational Education. The Council's basic purpose is to provide advice on a national level on vocational education. Senator Phil Gramm, who sponsored Brown's nomination, remarked, "Dee Brown has exactly the kind of expertise the Council needs to do its job of making our vocational programs work, both for the young people who need skills and for industry which needs workers." The National Council on Vocational Education is authorized by the Carl D. Perkins Vocational Act to advise the President, Congress and the Secretary of Education.

# Higgins Nominated
John E. Higgins, Jr., a career attorney with the National Labor Relations Board, has been nominated by President Reagan to fill the vacancy on the five-member board. Higgins, 48, has been the NLRB deputy general counsel since 1976. Previously, he worked in the regional office in Memphis, and at the headquarters in Washington. His appointment is subject to confirmation by the Senate.

"It was an enjoyable two years," beams Carl J. Heumann (Right) as he accepts a plaque of appreciation for service as President of the Mason Contractors Association of St. Louis (MCA). The plaque was presented by Ronald F. Pfleger, who had just been installed as the new President of the Association. President of Heumann Contracting Co., noted that MCA's success has been very dependent on members who volunteer to assume responsibility and manage many of the Association's activities.
