Appoint O'Conner
Jim O'Conner, Jr. has been appointed Executive Secretary for the Mason Contractors Association of Greater Chicago. Jim has been in sales and promotion for the past six years in the travel industry. A 1982 graduate of Fort Lewis College, Jim labored during the summer through high school and college, in the masonry industry.

David A. Robichaux has been appointed director of marketing and planning for the Auston Company, headquartered in Cleveland. Jerry Sheffield has been named southeast regional manager for Stone Equipment, Inc. Gregory S. Bobrowski, director of admixture research and development for Master Builders, Inc. was selected as a nominee for the "Man of the Year" by ENR magazine. J. Robert Mann, Jr., president of E-J Electric Installation Co., has been elected to the American Arbitration Association's board of directors.

Masonry Expo Set For Phoenix-Feb. 1990
Masonry Expo '90, the first all-masonry-industry exposition and educational conference, will take place Feb. 3-5 at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix, Arizona, sponsored by eight masonry industry associations.
At Masonry Expo '90, two of the event's eight sponsors, the Mason Contractors Association of America (MCAA), and the National Concrete Masonry Association (NCMA), will combine their previously separate expositions-NCMA's Concrete Industries Expo and MCAA's Annual International Expo-to form one huge industry-wide show.
The exposition will bring masonry contractors, general contractors, and manufacturers and distributors of brick, concrete block, concrete pavers, clay and ceramic tile, terrazo, and other masonry materials together with suppliers of equipment used for the manufacture and installation of masonry. It will also provide architects, engineers, builders, and construction specialists.

Kentucky Awards
The Kentuckiana Masonry Institute, Inc. recently presented four awards for "Excellence in Masonry" at their ninth annual Awards Luncheon held in conjunction with the Central Kentucky Chapter, American Institute of Architects.
The "M Honor Award" was presented to Helm Roberts, architect/planner, Lexington, for their design of the Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Frankfort, Ky.
An "Award of Merit" was presented to Addison Clipson Associated Architects, Inc., Cincinnati, Ohio, for their design of the Oldenberg Brewery, Ft. Mitchell, Ky.
Two "Awards of Recognition" were presented: Scherman-Carter-Barnhart, Lexington, for their design of the Morehead Post Office, Morehead, Ky., and Omni Architects, Lexington, for their design of the Bourbon Central Elementary School in Bourbon County, Ky.

The second edition of the valuable book, "Marble and Stone Slab Veneer," is now available from the Masonry Institute of America. This second edition conforms to the requirements of the 1988 Uniform Building Code and much of the material has been up-dated.

Tom Young Joins MIW
Thomas C. Young has joined the Masonry Institute of Washington as Technical Director and will provide technical services to design and construction professionals.
Mr. Young graduated from the University of Utah in Civil Engineering and is licensed in the State of Arizona. He has held management positions.
