J. and E. Duff, Inc., mason contractors in the "very competitive" Chicago market for more than 50 years, has owned Lull forklifts for 10 years. "When I bought my first Lull, the operators asked when I was going to replace the other machines in my fleet," according to Dick Lauber. J. and E. Duff now owns a Lull 1044, five model 644s and a 522. "The big 1044 with 10,000 pound capacity and 42-foot lift height eliminates a crane and hoist on some projects and my 644s are excellent all-around machines. We rented the 522 and my people said buy it. Now we use it for tight job sites because it's so maneuverable. The 522 is really handy on any job site and it's much more versatile than a straight mast machine." J. and E. Duff employs more than 100 people. Owner, Dick Lauber is an officer in the Mason Contractors of Chicago and an active member of the Illinois Masonry Institute. He says, "I could have a forklift a week to try from the other guys, but I haven't bought another brand since I got my first Lull- and I still have that one."
