HOIST-A Real Profit Maker
continued from page 11

On a restoration project in midtown Manhattan, Cole Restoration Corp., Hicksville, New York, the contractor had a dilemma. How to transport an estimated eighty tons of debris from the roof of a 24 story residential building to the dumpster in the alley below? Trash chutes were ruled out because it was a residential building. It seemed that the only solution was to carry the debris down through a narrow staircase and then down the limited-weight service elevator and out through the back lobby. Space was very limited. Laborers removing debris would be "crawling over" the workers performing the restoration task.

Cole Restoration approached Swing Staging, Long Island city, New York for a better solution. John Pantanelli, Jr. president of Swing Staging recommended a New Yorker model Beta hoist with a trestle monorail mounting system.

The assembly and mounting of the hoist system was accomplished in minutes on the roof. The hoist went right to work lowering loads of up to 600 lbs at average speeds of 90 feet per minute. Jim Reilly Jr., Field Supervisor for Cole Restoration, saw his labor personnel reduced by at least half and productivity per man hour increased. The hoist was also used to lift new building materials as well. Because of this success, Cole restoration is now using Beta hoist systems on two similar projects.
